K...um...using skis always seemed very straightforward for me, because they're on either foot and you can stand normally and face forward as you go down the slope. All you need to do is learn how to angle the skis so you can turn. You don't want to just go straight down, because that would be really fast and you might lose control. You usually bend your knees a bit to keep balance...and the ski boots latch on your legs up to your mid-calf, so it's pretty sturdy. If you do fall, the boots will snap off of the skis, so you don't twist your ankle as your skis go one way and your body goes the other.

With snowboards, it's a lot less straight forward, both literally and figuratively. You have to stand sideways and the front boot is permanently attached to the board, so if you fall, the board falls with you. There is no way to get off the board...so you have to find a way to stop without getting off, or you're on your butt...or on your face, depending upon which way you land. people who surf or skateboard are often good at snowboarding because it's done in the same general way, but the difficulty usually comes when you can't just get off when it gets out of control. If you ride with your left foot forward, attached to the board...then the stance your using is called 'regular', but if you stand with your right foot forward it's called 'goofy'. Don't ask me why...hehe. You should determine if your goofy or regular by which foot you naturally put in front when sliding across the floor with your socks on. I'm goofy...and for some reason i've always imagined Alfred would be too. It would make sense. haha. Anyway, most people when learning how to snowboard, fall on their butts a lot. It's all a part of the learning process!

Most people take either ski lessons or snowboard lessons at the lodge they're before they do either for real on the slopes. The lessons are held on the less steep slopes with an instructor from the lodge, and usually have about 20 people who are learning.

The most difficult thing for me with the snowboard was getting on the ski-lift chairs. It was so awkward just to move with the snowboard on one foot that I fell face forward before I could get into a chair...and I actually tried to get up by hanging onto the back of the chair in front of me...which was bad because they're all moving...haha. When I finally got into the seat I was mortified. It would be funny to see this happen to Arthur...I can so imagine it.

This thing could be a total hurt/comfort fic, I swear. ^__^

I hope that helps, but if you've got any other questions, just ask.
